Beyond Traditional Settings

Department of Clinical Pharmacy faculty pharmacists practice outside the hospital, clinic, and physician practice office, as they deliver novel pharmaceutical care to patients. In developing these new models of care, they partner with colleagues in community pharmacies, government, and industry. In addition, they guard the health of millions of Californians through the round-the-clock work of the California Poison Control System.

  • California Poison Control System—Administers California’s statewide system that provides 24/7 expert emergency phone consultations to the public, as well as to health care and emergency medical providers, on more than 300,000 poisoning cases each year; develops and disseminates poisoning prevention outreach education and messaging to California residents
  • Center for HIV Prevention and Care—Directs the medication adherence program for this center in Sonoma County, California
  • National Clinicians’ HIV/AIDS Consultation Center—Provides expert clinical advice on HIV/AIDS management to health care providers; offers a hotline delivering post-exposure prophylaxis recommendations to health care workers exposed to HIV and hepatitis; maintains a 24/7 hotline providing advice and referrals on HIV testing and antiretroviral use in pregnancy, during delivery, and post-partum
