Lisa Bero represents The Cochrane Collaboration on the World Health Assembly

Lisa Bero, PhD, a faculty member in the UCSF School of Pharmacy was named to represent The Cochrane Collaboration on the World Health Assembly of the World Health Organization (WHO) after the Collaboration was awarded an Assembly seat on January 23, 2011. The Cochrane Collaboration is an international organization that promotes high-quality research and evidenced-based decisions about health care.

Paul Ortiz de Montellano named associate dean

Paul Ortiz de Montellano, PhD, is the newly appointed associate dean of research in the UCSF School of Pharmacy. The associate dean of research advises the UCSF School of Pharmacy dean and leaders on research trends, issues, and opportunities and represents the School's research agenda to the campus. Ortiz de Montellano is a professor in the School's Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry.

Bero Serves on IOM Committee that Reports on Conflict of Interest

UCSF School of Pharmacy researcher Lisa Bero, PhD, served with UCSF School of Medicine colleagues Bernard Lo, MD, and Deborah Grady, MD, MPH, on an Institute of Medicine (IOM) committee that in spring 2009 published its findings on conflict of interest in medical research, education, and practice.

Assemi Named Assistant Dean of Accreditation and Quality Improvement

Mitra Assemi, PharmD, UCSF School of Pharmacy associate professor of clinical pharmacy, has been named the School's assistant dean for accreditation and quality, effective September 1, 2009.

Kishi Named Associate Dean of Student and Curricular Affairs

Donald Kishi, PharmD, UCSF School of Pharmacy health sciences clinical professor of pharmacy, has been named the School's associate dean of student and curricular affairs by Dean Mary Anne Koda-Kimble, PharmD. The appointment was effective September 1, 2009.

Tsourounis Selected to Participate in International Dietary Supplement Course

Candy Tsourounis, PharmD, UCSF School of Pharmacy clinical faculty member and expert on integrative and complementary therapies, was chosen to participate in an international practicum on dietary supplement research. The June 1-5, 2009 course was attended by 80 university faculty members and graduate students and held in Bethesda, Maryland.

New Associate Deans Focus on Global Affairs and Industry Partnerships

Two new associate dean positions have been created in the UCSF School of Pharmacy to expand the School's partnerships with industry and extend its work globally.

UCSF Pharmacy Faculty Advocate for Legislation Banning Tobacco Sales in Pharmacies

UCSF School of Pharmacy faculty members support a proposed City and County of San Francisco ordinance that would prohibit San Francisco pharmacies from selling tobacco products. "Everyone knows that tobacco kills," says UCSF School of Pharmacy Dean Mary Anne Koda-Kimble, PharmD. "There is no place in a setting that promotes health to sell a product that unquestionably causes death and disease."

Youmans Named First Associate Dean of Diversity

Sharon Youmans, PharmD, MPH, UCSF School of Pharmacy faculty member, has been named to the new position of Associate Dean of Diversity. The appointment was announced February 7, 2008 by School of Pharmacy Dean Mary Anne Koda-Kimble, PharmD.
