North Bay Program

North Bay Program

The North Bay Program is in its implementation year. The first class (class of 2009 – 2010) of 4th year pharmacy students will complete their Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experiences (APPEs) in June 2010. The geographical and population diversity of the North Bay affords students unique opportunities to apply their knowledge and skills in a variety of practice settings to culturally diverse patient populations. While close to San Francisco, the North Bay program offers students experiences in rural and suburban towns and cities. The North Bay Program is based in Santa Rosa with the Sonoma County Health Department and the UCSF-affiliated Santa Rosa Family Practice Residency Program. The North Bay Program will be expanding beyond Sonoma and Marin County into Napa and Solano counties in coming years. Acute care APPEs are available at a variety of hospital settings: intimate 30-50 bed hospitals as well as several hundred bed hospitals. Such sites include Sutter Medical Centers in Santa Rosa, Novato and Marin General Hospital. Ambulatory care APPEs are available at the Sonoma County Center for HIV Prevention and Care, West County Health Centers, Kaiser Permanente, Santa Rosa Family Practice Residency Program and VA Santa Rosa. Community pharmacy practice rotations are available at a variety of out-patient and community settings. Each of the North Bay rotation sites are excited about the presence of UCSF pharmacy students in their health care settings. Many of these sites hope to expand and enhance clinical pharmacy services and programs with the addition of UCSF pharmacy students.
