Lozenges

Lozenges, or troches, play a key role in patients who can not swallow solid oral dosage forms. Lozenges are designed to release a constant drug level in the oral cavity and to bathe the throat tissues. Lozenges can be used to deliver analgesics, anesthetics, antimicrobials, antitussives, or demulcents. Some of the active drug may escape the first-pass metabolism if the drug is absorbed through the buccal mucosa. Flavored lozenges can camouflage unpleasant taste.
  • Hard lozenges
  • Soft lozenges
  • Chewable lozenges or pastilles

Capsules

Capsules are unit doses of drugs enclosed within soluble shells of gelatin. Capsules add versatility to the drug delivery system armamentarium. Capsules are available in many sizes to provide dosing flexibility. Unpleasant drug tastes and odors can be masked by the tasteless gelatin shell.
  • Hard gelatin capsules

Capsules for Investigational Studies

Identical active and placebo capsules are compounded to maintain the blind of clinical drug studies. The properties of investigational controlled-release drugs can also be maintained. View our investigational preparations.
