Who We Are?
Faculty Collaboration
Through our affiliations with the UCSF Center for Consumer Self-care, we are an academic research collaboration of faculty in the Department of Clinical Pharmacy, University of California San Francisco - the top ranked pharmacy school in the nation. We have a commitment to meeting the challenges of health care through approaches that empower patients to take a more active role in their own health care. Our key areas of interest as faculty partners of the Center are research, education, pharmacy practice, and health policy.
Consumer Self-care Stakeholders
We seek active relationships with stakeholders in self-care, to further research, education, practice, and policy objectives for better consumer health. These stakeholders include:
- Leaders in pharmacy and the self-care industry whose decisions determine many of the self-care products and services offered to consumers
- Health care organizations offering self-care education and products to their members
- Consumer advocacy groups, which champion consumer rights in self-care
- Scientists whose research sheds light and evidence on self-care issues
- National, state and local government agencies who are entrusted with safeguarding the public's well-being, and
- Media leaders who influence news and feature coverage of self-care topics.
- Pharmacists and other health care providers who seek continual education on new findings and approaches to self-care
What We Do
By applying our experience in medicines, dietary supplements, in-home diagnostic devices, and lifestyle practices, we:
- Engage national, state, and local stakeholders on significant health policy issues and initiatives affecting access to, as well as the cost, quality and behavioral outcomes of, self-care;
- Conduct policy-relevant research to advance the knowledge and practice of self-care;
- Share with consumers and health professionals relevant, reliable, evidence-based information on responsible self-care;
- Educate health practitioners and students about the theory and practice of self-care.
